Students were given the opportunity to discover the various career areas that exist and were introduced to the realities involved with the workplace. Career awareness, exploration and planning enabled students to recognize the value of education and learn how to plan for careers.
To practice their presentation skills, students were videotaped as they answered the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” So watch for this upcoming video during American Education Week in November on MCTV Channel 62. The students will also be answering that question for the Salyersville Independent. Some students took this lesson a step further by interviewing a person who is doing what they want to do when they grow up.
This event is sponsored by the Parent Involvement Program, Community Education Program, Family Resource Centers, RTI, and parent volunteers. We hope the relationship between academics and jobs/careers will enable students to make the vital connections that will give meaning to their everyday learning at school and at home.
