Over the past few years, technology has seemed to blossom. This technology has managed to find its way into our Herald Whitaker Middle School classrooms. Looking in Mrs. Collins’s reading class Tuesday morning, you could see that we are surely touching the hem of the future with the modern SMART Classroom SMART Response Systems. Students took a vocabulary test on these small, handheld devices. The systems have buttons with letter choices on them, A-J, which allow students to take multiple choice tests. The students enter their answer to the question, which is projected on a SMART Board (it looks like a regular whiteboard, except it’s connected to a computer and actually becomes the computer screen). The program automatically grades the tests for the teacher, letting the students instantly know their grade, and not to mention the hours it saves teachers who would be manually grading papers.
“I think the SMART Response Systems are a great addition to the up-to-date technologies we use here at Herald Whitaker Middle School. The new technology makes learning more fun for the students, allowing them to learn faster and easier. The SMART Response Systems are not only for the classrooms of tomorrow, but for today,” said reading teacher Mrs. Collins.
The SMART Response Systems are only the beginning of use of advanced technology in the classroom. Imagine what type of advances these students’ kids will have!
