Rodney Ward, the current chairman of the Magoffin County School Board, has served on the board for four years. He and his wife Traci are residents of the Lick Creek area.  Ward has two daughters, Scarlett, age 4 years old, and Raegan, 14 years old.

Ward graduated for Morehead State University in 1998 with a degree in education, and has worked for the United States Department of Justice, Bureau of Prisons, for 16 years.

As for the reason he decided to get into education, Ward said, “I think education is one of the most important assets an individual can obtain in life, and as a board member I just wanted to make sure the funds were spent appropriately and give the kids the best opportunities.”

Jesse Rudd II, the current vice-chairman, has served on the board for four years, as well. Rudd was raised just outside of Salyersville. He and his wife, Rebekah, have two children, Trey and Finley. Rudd graduated with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Pikeville College. He received his doctorate in pharmacy from Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia.

Since 2013, Rudd has owned and operated Parkway Pharmacy, in Salyersville, and he has been a pharmacist for over 13 years.

Rudd said his own children inspired him to pursue a spot on the school board.

“I wanted to be a part of the board because of my concern for my kids and as well as the other kids throughout the district, and I wanted to make sure they have adequate facilities and programs to get a proper education.”

Doug Collinsworth, of White Oak, was recently elected to fill an unexpired term. Collinsworth taught high school mathematics for 37 years, retiring nine years ago. He now works for the Magoffin County Soil Conservation District.

“I just assumed with my years of experience in education I might have something to offer,” Collinsworth said regarding why he wanted to be on the board.

Jimmy Gullett, has served on the board since 2016. 

Gullett, born and raised in Magoffin. He and his wife and two kids – both students in the school system – continue to live in District 2. Gullett graduated from Morehead State University with a bachelor’s in industrial technology. He has been employed by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet for the past 19 years as an engineering technologist, working at the Division of Materials in Pikeville.

Gullett also stated that he wanted to join the board for his kids.

“I wanted the best for them and all of our kids in the community and we’re trying to do what’s right for the schools.”

Doug Wireman, Doug Wireman, who is on his third year of his four-year term, grew up in Royalton and now resides on Trace Fork with his wife Crystal and three kids.  Wireman graduated from Berea College with a B.A. degree in Biology and has worked for Kentucky Division for Air Quality as an Environmental Scientist for 19 1/2 years. He is also an assistant pastor at Brushy Fork Baptist Church.
