Magoffin County Schools will offer a K-12 Virtual Academy for the upcoming school year in addition to daily in-person instruction.

Any third or fourth grade student who would like to play football, please attend the practice on Monday, July 19th at 6:00 PM at the Magoffin County Football Stadium at the Magoffin County High School.  Please bring a completed physical to the practice. KHSAA Physical Forms

The Magoffin County School District is seeking feedback from parents, students, employees, and community members to assist in developing a plan for receiving and utilizing ARP ESSER III funds.  In March 2021, the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act was signed into law.  This act provided funds for K-12 schools to help sustain the safe and effective operations of our schools and address the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on students.  Magoffin County Schools is eligible to receive one-time federal funding through ARP ESSER III.  To provide feedback, please click the link below.  The deadline for completion is Friday, July 23, 2021.

There will be an informational meeting for any 7th or 8th grade boy interested in playing basketball on Thursday, July 29th from 5:00-6:00 PM in the HWMS Cafeteria. If students have a current physical, they need to bring a copy with them to the meeting to give to the coaching staff 
 

Herald Whitaker Middle School will be hosting a Softball Summer Camp for students 4th-8th Grade on July 28-29, 2021 at the Tim Bostic Memorial Softball Field. 

The Magoffin County Board of Education will be accepting sealed bids on items until Monday, August 2, 2021 at 10:00 AM.  

Herald Whitaker Middle School will be hosting their Back-To-School Orientation on Tuesday, August 3rd from 5:00-7:00 PM in the HWMS Gym.  Students will receive their schedules, as well as T-Shirts, Notebooks and other gifts.  

Magoffin County High School will have Sophomore Orientation on Wednesday, August 4th and Freshman Orientation on Thursday, August 5th, both from 5-7 PM.  

South Magoffin Elementary will be hosting their Back-To-School Night on Thursday, August 5th from 3-6 PM.

Attention High School Virtual Academy Students:

If you did not attend the first virtual academy orientation, a second orientation will be hosted at Magoffin County High School on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 from 3:30-6:00 pm.

Due to a vacancy on the council, MCHS is holding another election for a parent representative on the School Based Decision Making Council.

Nominations may be turned in to the front office between 3:30 and 4:30 on Wednesday, August 18, 2021.

Parent Drop off begins at 7:15am

Students can be dropped off at the FRONT entrance or SOUTH (closest to Rt. 7) entrance

Parent Pick Up begins at 2:50pm

The Magoffin County School District is considering hosting a free Vaccination Clinic (Pfizer) in the near future.  If you are interested in having the vaccination or having your children vaccinated, please complete the following survey.  This vaccination clinic would not be during the school day.  The clinic would be scheduled outside of the school day and would require a parent/guardian to be present.  This survey is not a permission form.  We are simply gathering data on the number of interested families.  If you are not interested, you do not need to complete the survey.  Thank you.

Magoffin County  Schools is sad to announce the passing of our dear friend and co-worker, Landon Fletcher. Landon began working with the school system in June of 2000 in the Maintenance Department.  He was an excellent and faithful employee for over 20 years and will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. 

Salyersville Grade School and Herald Whitaker Middle School are hosting Scholastic Book Fairs November 1-5th in their school libraries. 

The Magoffin County Board of Education would like to congratulate Mr. Scott Helton as he retires from the position of Superintendent of Magoffin County Schools. Mr. Helton has served the school system in many areas for the past 33 years as a teacher, principal and administrator. Principals, teachers and staff want to extend their best wishes and congratulations on a job well done.

MCHS is excited to announce the hiring of our new football coach, John DeRossett!

In the December 16 meeting, the school board unanimously agreed to hire Chris Meadows, at an annual salary of $120,000 for the next 3 ½ years.

In rural areas of eastern Kentucky, local school districts are vital in assisting families with essential needs.  Within the local school districts house the Family Resource Centers (Elementary Schools) and Youth Service Centers (middle and high schools).  

In honor of Bus Driver Appreciation Week, Magoffin County Schools will have refreshments for all bus drivers and other staff at the Bus Garage Office.  Thank you so much for you all you do!
